Bletchley Park Codebreakers

A question you might ask is, not another new book on Bletchley and those that worked there?

Well yes, but this should prove to be a valuable reference for many a historian, and for those with an interest in Bletchley and Enigma.

Many of those who worked at BP refused to speak publicly, and/or on record, about their time and role at the famous secret site.

What the author has found is many of these people did in fact communicate more openly in correspondence between each other. These letters were often from a sender requesting information and the recollections of the recipient's time there. Often these requests were themselves for a future book.

With their guard somewhat down, these letters reveal the more candid thoughts of some of the most important people to walk through the gates of Bletchley. While some confess that the years have muddled the memory, some are quite critical of certain people and GCHQ.

Some of these selected letters did vary in the level of interest to me, but I still found much to take from the book. Also

included is a brief biography of those mentioned, which proved most useful.

An interesting read and as I hinted at the start, a valuable contribution to the Bletchley story.

Now available from Pen & Sword books.
