It is difficult in a tweet to sometimes get your message across, so I just wanted to try & explain the idea that was only really formed a few days ago.
Assuming it goes ahead, I would tweet which history book would be the one both the bookshop & I deem would be a popular choice.
No offence is meant to the many great authors who I have got to know on Twitter, if this appears a bit selective.
*The regularity will depend on the book's release dates.
I am mindful that to benefit from a 20% discount, it is most likely going to be a hardback book that is chosen, & with notice, could be a future release that can be pre-ordered.
Like a normal online purchase, the book would be ordered by yourselves through the bookshop's website, & you would be given a discount code to apply for the 20% off. This discount should cover the P&P at least.
Remember some websites now require a minimum spend for free P&P.
*The code would only work for the books we have selected.
I'd like to make it clear at this point, that I do not profit from this at all, & that any purchase I make would be at the same price as yourselves.
The idea is purely to support an independant bookshop, & avoid using the big retailers & supermarkets. I am very mindful that the idea needs to tempt a reader whether they are local to me, or anywhere in the UK or further afield.
*The shop can supply a quote for international shipping.
I appreciate you may have your own local indy bookshops, & in these difficult times the price is always important. Likewise the book we choose might not be of interest. People will rightly make their own decision.
As I say, it is but an idea. It won't be for everyone, but I thought it was worth trialling at least. The lovely ladies at this particular bookshop have been most helpful & supportive of the idea, & I thank them for their support.
Happy reading all,
Simon
