There are several books by this author & historian that I have on my wishlist to read. So the opportunity to read & review this first, has brought me to the world of true crimes during the Second World War.
The back cover of the book states that 'the reader will never look at Britain's home front in quite the same way.' I can certainly confirm this to be true.
The book covers murder cases from around Britain. The many victims were men, women & children, & some of the details & photographs are really shocking, & will not be for the faint hearted.
Each case begins with the crime, then follows the police investigation through to the sentencing of the killer or killers, if found.
Whilst there certainly was the famous 'Blitz Spirit' throughout the war, this certainly reveals a far darker side, that while rare, certainly changed lives & communities forever.
Neil's narrative makes a difficult subject such an interesting, & compelling read. So much so that I have read this book in just a day!
I certainly look forward to reading more of his work.
Available from Pen & Sword Books, who I must thank once again for a review copy.
