Let me start with a confession. Despite always having an interest in history, I am a very stubborn reader!
I have read or own hundreds, if not thousands, of books on the Second World War. But except for some selective fiction, you will find little else amongst my shelves & boxes.
So when the 'The Last Viking' arrived, it was with some relief to be immediately tempted by the book's cover.
So reading this book was a first on many levels. I had read nothing on the Vikings before. I avoided Googling both the book & any of it's reviews (Full of praise, as it turns out). I just wanted to go into this with a completely open mind.
So to be fair to others, I will reveal nothing in the way of spoilers in this review.
The quote on the cover gives a hint to the 'Game of Thrones' writer. As a latecomer to that TV series, which I largely enjoyed, the book definitely has that feel about it.
From Norway, to the Mediterranean, & back to the famous battlefields of England. Bloody battles, lust, piracy, rivalry & murder will all be woven into the telling of this true story.
If you were a fan of GoT, I'm sure you will also enjoy reading this absorbing book.
This paperback version of the hardback is out soon. Available from, & my thanks to, Osprey Publishing.
